Parties

East Campus parties are a weekend tradition here at EC, as is SocComm funding to hold them! Approximately every other weekend, an East Campus hall throws a party for residents. Parties are monitored by hosts who are of age and wristbands are used to regulate alcohol (if any). All EC parties are registered with the Campus Police and Student Life Programs (SLP). Recently, EC was selected as the first dorm to participate in an online party registration system. Typically, a hall throws 1‐2 parties a term, and each party has a theme, like “The Internets Party”, or “Article II: II Articles of Clothing”. There are some parties every year which are traditionally hosted by certain halls, such as the Bad Ideas Ball (1E), the Inaugural Ball (for the incoming President), the End of Term Party (2W/4E), and the Reawakening of Krotus (5E). Halls spend a lot of time and effort to decorate their halls in the spirit of the different themes and occasions.
Soccomm's policy is to match the funding that a hall spends on a party up to $200 (i.e. if the hall spends $250, soccomm will contribute $200). All parties must be registered with SLP and the Campus Police 5 days in advance of the party.
DO NOT HOLD UNREGISTERED PARTIES. PERIOD.
For help with, funds for, and registration advice on hosting a party, contact ec-soccomm@mit.edu and hecker@mit.edu. EC SocComms (Reid and Sarah) both have all the required forms to register a party. If you need help filling them out or need the registration forms, please see one of them. Until further notice, all parties should at least be advertised via email to ec-party@mit.edu and posted to this wiki page at least 24 hours before the starting time on the party's registration form. Receipt of the email should be verified to make sure dirty words didn't set off Spamscreen. Parties that do not meet this minimum requirement will not receive SocComm funding.
